Hey everyone! I know it's been a long time and for 2013 I'm going to try and rekindle the spark of expansion art and the first piece I want to try that with is everyone's favorite redhead, Catherine. I'm planning a little redesign (nothing too serious) and am getting hung up on ideas for a new hairstyle for her. So I'm bringing this question to my fans asking for ideas for a new hairstyle of the plump gal. If you can include links to references for the style you submit I would be quite grateful. Post those ideas and I'll do my best to put the one I like best to work with a new pic for a new year. And also I want to take this time to hope everyone had a great holiday and will have a happy new year as well!

If you're a fan or player of Skyrim, and have met the wonderful woman that is Serana from the Dawnguard DLC, she has an interesting hairstyle which I could see being on Catherine. Even if you're not into Skyrim, or haven't played Dawnguard, please take a look at these:

I respectfully disagree with Kip on the notion of pulled back hair.

While it can certainly be a boring look, disregarding it as a "plainess" of it underlies the versatility that can come with hair that long: You can wear it in braids for when you want a girl to look practical, up in a bun when she wants to do something more formal, and of course wear it down for a more intimate look.

Personally I am of the opinion that a braid that started at about her neck or shoulder and led down past her backside would be something the geeky glutton would wear while she was stuffing her face with food to prevent herself from gorging on her own crimson locks... accent it with fringe on the sides of her ears, maybe with some

And when she's finally stuffed herself (or at least finished off every available morsel), out comes her braid to reveal a swath of long, wavy locks that can pour over her curves as she rubs her belly in relaxation.

Now by all means DO experiment with styles and additions regardless of whether she has a single hairstyle or something that can be worn a couple different ways... Kip is right about the importance of hair to sell a character, that much we agree on.

I totally agree with Kip on this one.
Glad to see you're still around! Been wondering where you've gone.

Honestly I like the current style, keeps things simple and she's easy to recognize. Glad you're planning to bring back one our favorite chubby redheads.

For the love of god, please don't make any pulled back hair or a ponytail!

If you want a shorter hair go for something asymmetrical like this one [link] , or something with a twist like [link] A simple hairstyle can also look good as long as its styled correctly [link]

For longer hair there is the classic "Ariel head" [link] but it gets more interesting adding a fringe and or curls [link] Also adding volume to a hair can make it look more stylish but you have to be careful when drawing to not make it over the top. [link]

Just remember to treat hair like one of the most important aspects to recognizing your character. Not two pieces of leaf stuck to a person's head, I see way too many people going with oversimplified hair. Give your girl something that shows her personality and sense of style.
